Diagnostics

When the results of the comprehensive wellness exam aren’t enough to provide an accurate diagnosis of a pet’s condition, we rely on advanced diagnostics for an internal examination. For your convenience, Scott Lake Veterinary Center offers all of our diagnostic services in-house, which means less waiting time for you and your pet. It also means we can perform same-day testing and have your pet’s results within hours. With these services available in-house, we are pleased to be your one-stop shop for all of your pet’s needs!

Digital Radiography

Our on-site, digital radiograph equipment provides high-quality X-rays to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders, including bloat (GDV), pyometra, broken bones, obstructions, pregnancy, cardiac disease, foreign bodies, and tumors, to name a few. We use digital radiography for our dental patients as well to view below the gum line, as this is where most dental problems are found.

Ultrasound

Scott Lake Veterinary Center has partnered with Oncura to provide this non-invasive, pain-free technology for examining the liver, spleen, intestinal tract, and other soft tissue organs. The results of an ultrasound can help us detect inflammatory bowel disorders, bladder stones, and various other conditions. If necessary, we can send the images out to board-certified radiologists for additional interpretation and telemedicine consultations.

CT Scans

With our CT scanner, we have the ability to scan the entire body of any patient, of any size. This technology gives us a safe, effective way to obtain images of the sinus and nasal cavity, bulla, ear, brain, dental area, and spine. It can also be used for orthopedic, cardiac, pulmonary, and urinary studies. These studies can be sent to board-certified radiologists for more in-depth interpretation and telemedicine dental consultations.

Laboratory Services

Our in-house laboratory facility is fully equipped for our veterinary team to perform CBC (complete blood count) and serum chemistries (blood work), which gives us insight on kidney and liver function, among other factors. We also perform various microbiology screenings in-house, including skin and urine cultures. If necessary, we utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations to tailor to our patients’ needs.

DNA Testing (Wisdom Panel)

Is your dog a mixed breed, but you’re unsure of which breeds? With Scott Lake Veterinary Center’s Wisdom Panel DNA test, you can find out! With a small sample of blood drawn by one of our technicians, you can learn your pet’s breed mixture and gain insight into his/her appearance and behavior. Knowing your dog’s DNA information can help us tailor a health care plan to his/her specific genetics while helping you provide the best possible care for your canine companion.

Tonometry

Better known as a glaucoma check, our tonometry services involve using a tonometer (measuring instrument) to measure your pet’s intraocular pressure (IOP), or the fluid pressure in the eye. Tonometry is used to diagnose glaucoma, which is a condition that involves pressure being placed on the eye that affects fluid drainage, possibly leading to blindness as a result.

Endoscopy

Our endoscopy diagnostic service involves using a flexible or rigid endoscope (a fiberoptic instrument) to safely and non-invasively examine the internal organs without surgery. These include the esophagus, stomach, upper intestines, nasal cavity, and chest cavity.
