Dr. Zachary Joseph joined the Scott Lake Veterinary Center family in the summer of 2013 as an Associate Veterinarian and became Medical Director of the facility in June of 2019. He attained his undergraduate degree in Zoology at Washington State University followed by his Doctorate at the University of Wisconsin – Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. Since working at Scott Lake, Dr. Zack has expanded his skill sets and has strong interests in ultrasonography / echocardiography as well as dentistry and internal medicine / dermatology. Over his eight years at Scott Lake, he has cultivated wonderful relationships with his clients and patients which is one of his favorite parts about being a general practitioner. When he is not at his second home of Scott Lake, Dr. Zack enjoys spending time with his lovely wife Casondra and their two Golden Retrievers Tucker and Brody. While not working or spending time with family he enjoys being an avid rock climber, playing / practicing music and socializing.
Dr. Tom Oelfke grew up in Corcoran, MN and knew from a young age he wanted to work with animals. After high school, Dr. Tom attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology and went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 2018 and joined the Scott Lake Veterinary Center family in June of 2018. He thoroughly enjoys the never-ending complexity of animal medicine and has a special interest in surgical procedures. His easy-going personality, great sense of humor, and ready smile are a natural fit at Scott Lake. Dr. Tom spends his spare time working in his garden, doing home improvement projects with his wife, Serena, watching TV with his dog, Chico, and is an avid outdoorsman. Dr. Tom is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Kelly Callahan has been a member of the Scott Lake Veterinary family since November of 2019. She graduated from University of Wisconsin - Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 (and was Dr. Zack’s classmate!), and worked as an associate veterinarian at veterinary clinics in Kenosha and Madison, Wisconsin. She relocated to Minnesota in the fall of 2019 with her husband Ryan, son Ronan, and two Boston Terriers Kwame and Linus. She strives to provide compassionate, thorough care to all of her patients, and she especially enjoys internal medicine, preventative medicine, and dentistry. In her free time, she loves spending time with family, cooking, and being outdoors.
Dr. Katie Chan is a recent graduate from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2020 located on the beautiful Caribbean island called Saint Kitts. After completing her pre-clinical curriculum at Ross University, she was placed at University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine where she completed her final year of clinical training. Dr. Katie is originally from Bloomington, MN and is excited to be a part of the Scott Lake Veterinary Center family to provide high quality and compassionate veterinary care to your furry family members. She has special interests in preventative medicine, soft tissue surgery, and dentistry. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Katie is an avid indoor rock climber, enjoys PC gaming, playing musical instruments, and spending time with her family/friends including her beloved rescue cat, Everest.
Becky has worked at Scott Lake Veterinary Center for a total of 17 years. Becky started working at Scott Lake Veterinary Center in 2002 as an assistant, but moved her way into a Customer Service Representative role. That is where Becky worked for years, greeting clients and furry patients, and going the extra mile for every client. Becky has recently taken on the challenge of Practice Manager, and hopes to instill her love of Scott Lake Veterinary Center clients and patients, to the entire staff! Becky’s favorite dog breed is a Golden Retriever, and currently has Russell, a Golden Retriever mix, and Teddy an English Cream Golden Retriever. Becky also has a domestic medium hair cat, named Sugar, whom rules the household! Becky enjoys trips to northern Minnesota, attending swim meets for her daughter, making salsa, and helping her daughters with their successful slime business (shipped slime to over 20 states)!
Kim has worked in the veterinary field for over 25 years. She worked at Scott Lake in 2011-2013 under different ownership/management and came back in 2020. She is very proud of the team here at Scott Lake. She has worked in all areas of a veterinary hospital as a CSR, technician, surgery technician and management. Kim oversees all our inventory and ensures we have what we need to run our hospital successfully. It is her passion to care for pets and help/educate their owners. In her spare me, she enjoys biking, horseback riding, camping, traveling, and when she can, spending me with her family. She shares her home with her 2 cats Rex & Mikey and plans to get another dog in the near future.
Rachel has been here at Scott Lake Veterinary Center since January 2019. She graduated from Argosy University with her Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology in 2019. She briefly worked in Veterinary Ophthalmology for about a year. She grew up with animals and always had a passion for them. Her childhood favorite movie was even "Hotel for Dogs". She promptly started her Vet Tech Program right out of high school and immediately felt at home in the field. At the end of this program, she interned at Scott Lake and has worked there ever since. She has continued to enjoy the close relationships she has developed with her coworkers, and thrives when she sees her patients happy and healthy. In her free time, she may also be baking sourdough bread or reading historical fiction. She also loves snuggling her 3 dogs; Penny, an Australian Shepherd; Piper, a Jack Russell Terrier; and Penelope, a Papillon/Dachshund mix. This trio of pups keeps Rachel busy at all times.
Kelly Joined the Scott Lake Veterinary team back in June of 2017. Kelly earned her Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology from Minnesota School of Business in 2011. Kelly's primary area of interest at Scott Lake is professional Dentistry and Dental Radiology. She enjoys the family atmosphere that encompasses Scott Lake and it's team. In her free time, she enjoys watching the Vikings, spending time outdoors fishing, kayaking, and time with family. Kelly has a strong love for music and can be found serenading patients and staff around the clinic. You may even catch a glimpse of her at karaoke around town. She especially enjoys hanging out with her fur babies, Chauncey and Stevie. Chauncey is young and wild, and Stevie is a 3 legged pup. Don't let the 3 legs fool you, together this duo is definitely keeping Kelly on her toes.
Heather has been a part of the Scott Lake Veterinary Center team since August of 2023. She went to school at North Dakota State University where she got her Bachelors of Science in Veterinary Technology with a minor in Workplace Psychology. She is a Licensed Veterinary Technician and is also trained in Suicide Prevention and administering ProHeart12. Heather began college with a Biology Major, but soon felt she wanted to be more hands on with animals. This in addition to her fascination with animal Anatomy and Physiology is the reason she switched to a Major in Veterinary Technology. As soon as she started those classes, she knew she was in the right place because she felt right at home. Heather's favorite part about her job is seeing a sick pet return to the clinic feeling better and knowing that she played a part in improving that pet's health. In her free time, She enjoys reading, playing piano, and kayaking. Her favorite time of year is Fall. She enjoys the chilly breeze as well as fall baking and cozy sweaters. She feels she most resembles a German Shepherd due to her loyalty and love of learning new things. She also notes that she is a bit of an overthinker, has a sensitive stomach, and has hip issues in true German Shepherd fashion.
Caitlin has been a Veterinary Technician at Scott Lake Veterinary Center since September of 2024. She got her Bachelors of Science in the Veterinary Technology program at Minnesota School of Business in 2016. She is also certified in Royal Canin Nutrition. She knew she wanted to work with animals at a very early age. She was inspired by a black kitten she had when she was 4 years old. She now has a full house of 4 cats named Kage, Earl, Milo, and Bonnie as well as a 2 year old son named Elijah. In addition to being a Veterinary Technician, Caitlin is very proud of her role as a mother and considers this one of her greatest accomplishments. Caitlin enjoys educating clients as well as advocating for their pets who are unable to speak for themselves. If you bring in a Golden Retriever to Scott Lake, you will likely see Caitlin as this is her favorite dog breed. Outside of work, you might catch her online streaming video games or watching her favorite movie, Top Gun.
Megan joined Scott Lake in June 2024 as a Customer Service Representative. She will likely be one of the first to greet you when you come in the door. She has always wanted to play a role in Veterinary Medicine, and she was inspired after she rescued her first dog as an adult. Megan loves providing her knowledge to clients during both the happiest and saddest times in their lives. She is a proud mother of 3 beautiful kiddos and is married to a wonderful husband. Her family also shares their home with two dogs named O'Malley and MacGregor. If she were a dog breed, she believes she most resembles a giant breed due to their silly quirks, love for their family, and she tends to enjoy being a couch potato at times.
Alex joined Scott Lake Veterinary Center in September of 2024. She joined the team as a Customer Service Representative. Alex has five Australian Shepherds; Denver, Ford, Emmie, Rip, and Fitz, and 2 cats; Tillie and Hattie. This full house of animals inspired her to jump into veterinary medicine in order to advocate for other animals. She loves her role as a CSR because she gets to provide comfort to pet owners in their time of need. In her free time, you may catch Alex cooking a delicious meal or snuggled up in a cozy blanket. In her opinion, she most resembles an Aussie because she is loyal and can be crazy at times.
Julia has been a part of the Scott Lake Veterinary Center team since August 2024. Julia is the youngest member of our team, and has taken on the role of Customer Service Representative. Her long-term goal is to become a Veterinary Technician but wanted to get some experience in the field in preparation for that. Julia grew up around animals and has always had a love for them which inspired her to join the Veterinary field. She has two dogs at home; a British lab named Maverick and a French mastiff named Knox. In her free time, Julia enjoys fishing, mudding, and spending lots of time with her dogs. She is very thankful to play a part in helping our patients. Julia feels she most resembles a British lab due to their high energy levels, outgoing nature, and their tendency to be annoying at times.
Samantha has been a Veterinary Technician at Scott Lake Veterinary Center since June 2023. She has always had a love for all animals, the fluffy, scaly, and feathered. Samantha has grown up working in the pet care industry her whole life, starting by volunteering at animal shelters and boarding facilities when she was 10. She grew up having almost every pet imaginable and loving each one of them like a family member. Currently, Samantha has one fur-child named Terry, who is a 13lb cream Miniature Poodle, and his sister, a 65lb Pitty-Mix named Fiona. Some of Terry’s favorite tricks are to boop his nose to your hand, dance on his tippy toes, and play the piano and guitar. Yes, her dog can play the guitar! Although his favorite game is fetch with a good old fashioned tennis ball. When she is not playing fetch with her dogs or training them through fun positive reinforcement and yummy treats, she enjoys painting portraits, hiking in nature, and star-gazing. Samantha has always had a passion for taking care of animals and being there for clients. She is always happy to meet your furry family members, and to keep them healthy and happy! If Samantha was a dog breed, she would be a Poodle because she is full of energy, loves staying busy and being in nature, and has the curly hair to match!
Karen joined the Scott Lake Team in March of 2024. She has worked in the veterinary field for over 24 years as a Veterinary Technician. She enjoys getting to know clients and their pets and creating long-term relationships with each and every one of them. Karen enjoys being outdoors and gardening in her free-time. She also enjoys riding ATVs. She lives with a 9 year old Australian Shepherd, Genna, and a 2 year old kitty, Zip.
Jimmy (AKA James, Jimbob, Jimmy Dean) joined Scott Lake in February 2022. He grew up finding lost, sick, or injured strays and bringing them home to care for them. This inspired him to join the Veterinary field when he was in High School. He continued to acquire experience in the field and became a Veterinary Technician. He took a year off to travel the U.S. in his Van named Chuck, but soon returned to continue doing what he loves, which is helping animals. He is proud to provide quality care to pets who need it most. In his free time, he enjoys photography, bicycling, hiking, camping, and playing music. He shares his home with a Border Collie named Bird, and a cat named Naz, also known as Fish by fellow Scott Lake staff. Jimmy thinks he most resembles a Great Pyrenees due to his laidback, easy-going nature as well as his loyalty and protective instincts.
Danae joined SLVC July of 2023 following her six years in Special Education. She is a Vet Assistant and currently in school to be a Veterinary Technician through Penn Foster. Danae has always had a passion for animals and their care. She is especially fond of connecting with each pet at their level. Danae says if she were a breed of dog, she would be a bulldog; being gregarious, friendly, willful, and protective of her people. Outside of Scott Lake, Danae is active in her church, loves getting crafty, and is always finding a new hobby to try. She loves to watch animal documentaries and grew up watching her hero, Steve Irwin, on TV. Danae’s love of animals even brought her to naming her cat Mako, after the species of shark. You may even get to see him around the clinic, sometimes hanging out at the front desk to greet you. Feel free to give him a pet and say hello!
Tyra joined Scott Lake in October 2024. She grew up loving her family pets, and has always wanted to play a role in their health/care. Her passion for animal care is what inspired her to become a part of Veterinary Medicine, and she is most proud of knowing that she helps the pets who are in need. She is also proud to be a licensed Early Childcare Educator. She loves her Chihuahua, Paco, who has impressively long legs. In her free time, she enjoys going for walls, playing video games, going on road trips, cosplaying at anime conventions, and listening to K-Pop music. She also enjoys Sushi, Boba Tea, and Studio Ghibli movies.
Rachel K is a veterinary assistant. She gained some insight on veterinary medicine through shadowing clinics and spending some time in school. She has had an interest in Veterinary Medicine ever since she was a freshman in high school. She grew up having dogs and cats and finding comfort from other pets anywhere she goes. She has many pets in her household. Naomi, a Yorkshire terrier-shih-tzu mix, who is 7 years old has been with Rachel's family since she was a puppy. Otis, a golden retriever who has a beautiful cream colored coat, is a wonderful part of her family. Two short haired cats, Nala & Todd have been a part of the family since her childhood. Our most recent addition is Daisy, a medium haired black cat. Outside of work, she enjoys running a beauty business which includes doing lash extensions. In my free time, you may find her reading a book, or spending time with friends. She loves to watch horror movies and try new restaurants as well.
